Bangalore centre is basically engaged for taxonomic studies of scarabaeids and management of whitegrubs of plantation crops. The centre is providing assistance for the identification of scarabaeids throughout the country. All the information for the identification request received and the material collected at the centre have been added to the data base. The centre has established a taxonomic collection within the country for correct identification of the whitegrub species associated with a given crop. The identification service provided by the centre has obviated the need for sending specimens to CABI saving valuable foreign exchange that would otherwise be spent on identification.
