GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS OF XVII GROUP MEETING HELD AT RAJASTHAN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, DURGAPURA, JAIPUR ON JULY 11-12, 2013

  1. Dr. T.P. Rajendaran, suggested that there is need for correlating the luminance value (Lux) of the light sources in light traps   to beetles catch and advised to use light trap which is being used by Jorhat centre, supplied by Japan. Jorhat centre should provide the address of the same to other centres or may provide the technology to built the same (Action: Jorhat centre).
  2. It was suggested that the insect catch of the light trap will be correlated with corresponding weather data. The GPS will be used to record the geographical details with respect to distribution pattern of species restricted by altitude /latitude/longitude (Action:  All centres).
  3. Dr. T.P. Rajendran also suggested to submit two years pooled data of experiment for presenting in the group meeting (Action:  All centres).
  4. It was decided to work only on the insect species which are crop pest (Action: All centres).
  5. Dr. Rajendran suggested for digitalization of literature on whitegrubs   available at Bangalore centre and distributes it to all centres (Action: Bangalore centre).
  6. Dr. M. Nagesh, Principal Scientist, NBAII, Bangalore, has nominated as the Nodal Officer for preparing DNA bar coding of different species. It was emphasized that all the information will be part of Biometric grid under the control of NBAII, Bangalore with all concern centres. (Action: Dr. M. Nagesh and all centres).
  7. Dr. T.P. Rajendran suggested for visit of Majuli (Assam) by all the whitegrub workers to have observation as how they are sustaining their plant protection (Action: All centres).
  8. Dr. Badal Bhattacharyya, Entomologist, Jorhat centre will be leader to use  data from different centres for worked out the ETL values for each pest crop wise (Action: All centres & Dr.  Badal Bhattacharyya).
  9. Emphasis is to be given to constitute monitoring team from ICAR/University persons and a report will be submitted by this team before presenting coordinated report (Action: ADG (PP) ICAR).

Dr. Rajendran also suggested that:

  • Abamectin is not to be used in the country.  ,
  • He also felt that there is a need for initiating work on pheromones of white grubs at different centres and that the NBAII will proactively provide the necessary support in terms of GC-EAD and GC-MS data for all centres.
  • Research papers should bring out and to be published in   NAS Journal of at least >7 rating.
  • NAIP visibility must come in package of practice.
  • To publish IPM technology of whitegrub.
  • More emphasis is to be given for recurring grant and if any centres need more money, special proposals may be submitted to ICAR.
  • Before submitting the recommendation by the scientist it should be submitted to CBR.
